The game
You play as a dragon protagonist who must escape from his prison in an empire which wanted to break and train him to use him as a war machine in their conquests.
As such he is a powerful fire-breather who can easily storm through opposition, however the empire has a large and well equipped military all around who can grind him down if he wasn't careful. It is also important to be fast, to flee before forces could be mustered to thwart his attempt.
He doesn't want bloodshed, to be remembered as a monster, so he should be cautious to not cause more losses than necessary, and he may also help people (prisoners) on his way, supporting a probable uprising against the power.
Hints
- Pay attention to your energy. If it is low, stop for a brief rest as pushing it you run slower and can't jump too high.
- Look out for power-ups to unlock your full potential!
- Keep moving, you don't benefit from loitering around to whittle down your opposition!
Backgrounds
Flight of a Dragon is a game designed for a simple 8-bit homebrew console, the Uzebox (by Alec Bourque). It is based on an 8-bit AVR microcontroller, the ATmega644, which has 64 KBytes of ROM and 4 KBytes of RAM, driving video directly through an 8-bit port. It is clocked at 28.6MHz, however much of the processing time is taken for generating video signal, and most of what's left to compose the graphics.
The source code of the game is available on GitHub.
