Outpost in the Dragon's Maw had just received a bit of an update, introducing the following features:
- High scores! Unfortunately only on the real hardware or PC emulator though as unfortunately the web emulator doesn't store the data as of yet.
- Attack indicators revealing where the strongest dragons are approaching from. Sometimes it could come quite handy, adding another gameplay element (the game otherwise remains the same).
- Automatic undo - now if you made a mistake swapping, and it didn't make a match, you can swap it back and regain the swap. Works even after an attack wave!
Technologically it was a rather tricky update, the ROM space to have these fit had to be obtained somewhere. That came from coming up with a new background tileset compiler which allows for saving ~15% on the tileset. This is quite large due to how the tileset is realized (it is generated by code while racing the beam), which is a necessity to be able to do this amount of sprites on this hardware.
Finally it feels like a fairly complete game, have fun playing! :)
